This dance performance is a personal declaration of independence in the context of historical events.
This dance performance is dedicated to the centenary of the restoration of Lithuanian independence, but it is far from reminiscent of a mere historical chronicle. A performance by renowned French choreographer Alban Richard and choreographer Agnija Šeiko, the French and Lithuanian dancers resemble a manifesto or a declaration. In I Declare – Brandir, viewers can look closely at the unconditional aspiration of the individual, and of the nation as a whole, to be one’s self and to follow one’s own attitudes and values, rather than those imposed by others. Standing up and saying loudly “look what I am” requires a sense of courage and freedom, and watching such a manifestation of personality, community, or even nation is always an exciting and inspiring event.
This is the second joint work of the French dancers’ troupe and the Šeiko Dance Company. It not only deals with common human problems, but also notes the close cooperation between the French Embassy, the French Institute in Lithuania, and the city of Klaipėda.
