The multi-media Dance Opera Wasted Land features music, operatic singing, contemporary dance and video projections. The creators of the performance were inspired by the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard‘s book ‘”Simulations and Simuliacrs“ and Rodrigue Pla‘s movie “Inner Desert“ (Mexico, 2008). Jonas Sakalauskas‘s music was compiled by layering various types of electronic (ambient, experimental, trip-hop) sounds with music from the Romantic era over which he super-imposed special effects lifted from ritual music, office sounds, various other noises, and song insertions. Choreographer Agnija Šeiko constructed a performance from the elements of contemporary dance and ballet that are illuminated by minimal costumes by Sandra Straukaitė. The main character, a soloist-philosopher, is a dancer. The entire dance troupe represents a choir that also talks and sings. The performance content focuses on the inner realms of the characters, simulating their experiences and relationships to the surrounding world of mass information and events through combined artistic forms.
For this performance, Agnija Šeiko was awarded the highest “Klaipėda Theater Award” in 2012.
